Meet Sumar Rhea

People tell Sumar she doesn’t know a stranger, so human resources is a perfect fit for her personality. Sumar enjoys HR because each day brings new challenges and learning opportunities, especially with changing rules and regulations, as well as opportunities to help others by solving problems.

Sumar has worked in HR for more than 15 years, finding her love for the work when starting out with a mom-and-pop company in the oil industry. Her experience includes working with businesses small and large. She has managed everything from accounts receivable/accounts payable to payroll, benefits administration, and employee relations. Sumar has also handled her fair share of ADA and worker’s compensation claims along with FMLA and unemployment issues.

One highlight of Sumar’s career came when she was the HR director of a behavioral health company with 225 employees. Sumar set up a new HR information system from start to finish, which gave managers and directors more time to work with staff, decreased payroll processing time, and led to other improvements. Another highlight came when Sumar created a competitive salary scale and bonus system for registered nurses and revamped a retention policy.

Sumar received Associate Degrees in Applied Science and Arts from Northwest Kansas Technical College/Colby Community College.

A lifetime resident of Kansas, Sumar grew up in Goodland and now lives in Dodge City with her two beautiful daughters. Outside of work, Sumar is an active volunteer and enjoys helping others. She also enjoys spending quality time with her daughters, traveling, hiking, and reading. When spending time with friends and family, she likes playing games, watching movies, and cooking something great for them.
